An elevated Wolds village surrounded by open chalk farmland, deep dry valleys and the Yorkshire Wolds Way.
An elevated Wolds village surrounded by open chalk farmland, deep dry valleys and the Yorkshire Wolds Way.
Huggate is one of the highest villages in the East Riding, set deep within the Yorkshire Wolds north-east of Pocklington.
Traditional houses, the church, village green spaces and a clear centre are surrounded by rolling chalk farmland and dramatic dry valleys.
Huggate's elevation gives it a markedly different character from the villages around Pocklington. Roads approach across open chalk farmland before dropping towards a sheltered centre, creating wide views and a strong sense of arrival.
Deep dry valleys cut through the surrounding Wolds and give the landscape unusual depth and variety. The village therefore feels closely connected to the landforms, paths and seasonal colours of the chalk countryside.
