The Vikings
Today I am writing my article on the main historic aspect of York, The Vikings. In November 866 AD a large army of Danish Vikings, called the “Great Heathen Army" captured York. They did so easily due to conflict in the Kingdom of Northumbria that had served as a distraction for the Vikings. The following year the Northumbrians invaded York to try and retain what they thought was rightfully theirs. They were unsuccessful and the Viking army remained victorious. Later that year the Viking army left and put a local puppet King in charge of York and the surrounding areas.
